Heeney Company…Home and Holiday – Trendsetting Silk Floral, Seasonal Arrangements & Home Accents for the Discriminating Taste

For Mothers Every Where – A Special Wish April 27, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — heeneycompany @ 3:41 pm

At last, after a few false start warmer weather appears to be upon us.  When I finally managed to step outside and savor the sunshine, I found the jasmine was budding and the roses were preparing to burst open in a blaze of glory, along with a myriad of weeds and even less desirable insects.

Call it what you will, pride or neighborhood pressure, but  I felt moved to secure my rakes, clippers and insecticides. I was preparing to “do battle” and reclaim what I dryly refer to as my landscaping, which at best might fall under the category of “nature run amuck”.

As the sweat trickled down my back and the grass cuttings set me to itching, I admit a bit of cussing ensued. The honeysuckle however fragrant and lovely was winning the day, choking the life out of my shrubs as it reached for the sun.  Suddenly I paused and realized I had discovered a miracle  amidst the overgrown grass,  a lovely large peony bush covered with buds ready to crack open was actually flourishing.  I was amazed and delighted!

Tired and itching, I at last retired to the front porch to enjoy one of the South’s true treasures, a glass of sparkling home-brewed ice tea. My neighbors may not have thought I won the war with my yard work,  but I felt a great sense of victory as I looked towards the beautiful peony bush.  Memories flooded into my mind, memories of my mother each spring instructing me  not to  mow her peony bushes down with the riding lawn mower.  As the oldest I was responsible for mowing the fairly large yard.  Being a book-worm I would mow and read,  and without fail, I would be distracted and “OOPS!” under the blades the peonies would go! Bless my mother, she never yelled – too long, and I could out run her.  I always felt so bad as she took such pleasure from the sight and smell of her big beautiful peonies.

So mom as this Mother’s Day approaches I want you to know I toiled over my patch of yard and finally managed to save a peony bush and it made me think  of you!

The tea slipped down nice and cool but recalling how lucky I am to have this wonderful woman in my life warmed me through and through. There is no substitute for the love she has given me through out my entire life.  I am who I am because of her determination and I am sure many of you can say the same. So I want to extend my thank yous to all mothers  every where. In fact I believe I can honestly say all of us at the Heeney Company send out a heart-felt Happy Mother’s Day and we hope to see you all soon as the year progresses.

PS – We even carry peonies that would fool my mother. Pity I didn’t know about the possibilities when I was a kid!

Florist Meeting March 11, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — heeneycompany @ 4:01 pm

The Heeney Company hosted The Metro Florist Associations monthly meeting Tuesday evening. Twenty two of Atlanta’s top Florist were mesmerized by David Rayment’s presentation on window displays. He expressed how important it is for store owners to change their window displays regularly. Ever holiday season is a reason to change. You have New Years, Valentines, Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Keep it simple and clean. If you are on a busy street, try to keep the colors monochromic. It may be a quick flash of color the first time the customers drive by, but they will slow down the next time they are near your store. Heeney Company carry’s a wide array of items for all your display needs. Please visit our website at www.heeney.com and join us next week March 18-23 for our 50th Anniversary Sale, where everything is 30% off. Excludes Artist Gallery. Store hours are 8:30-5:00 pm everyday, closed Sunday March 21st.

When we say “Custom Arrangements”, I am sure we all think about pretty floral arrangements for our dining room tables or accent pieces. But it could even be a “Pot Man” for  your front porch, as seen in this picture. Brenda, one of our designers, created this man for a customer and as you can see, he is even ready for Valentine’s Day. So next time you need to be inspired or some custom work done, stop by and let us help.

Quote from our customer

“Brenda, I adore my pot man – as does everyone who sees him! Thank you for all of your talent and effort! Wanted you to see him in his new home. Bernie C.”

Halloween Hag October 9, 2009

Filed under: Featured Products — heeneycompany @ 10:19 am
The Sun had finally dropped low enough in the sky that soft shadows were stealing along the street.  I rolled out of bed, jerked the curlers from my hair and poked about looking for my very best bra. The old body didn’t look like it used to admittedly, I just needed a little “pick me up  and separate”.

Muttering as  I stumbled about tripping over the colorful collection of cloths, books, and coffee cups that never really made it to their respective places I managed to stub a toe and create a few new words for Websters Dictionary of Slang.  Not in the mood to get on  my hands and knees to check under the bed  I finally  I dug out my second best bra and with a pat and a shake I got everything in its place,  sort of…. A quick yank and from the depths of the wardrobe the traditional gown I always wore on this particular night limped into view. Struggling and twisting I finally squirmed into  its faded elegance.  Darn thing must have shrunk in the wash, or perhaps I had managed to put on a few pounds.

Glancing towards the mirror I gave a coy shake of my head, and the curls fell into place, hmms that Dollar Store hair dye wasn’t so bad, a bit garish to some but in the night sky who is gonna really see? Peering more intently into the mirror I noticed I was getting a tad thin on top, with a cryptic curse I grabbed up my pointy hat and crammed it on.. didn’t stand quite as perky as it used to but then again nothing stood out as perky as it once did.  Squinting and grossing  about needing glasses I sucked in my gut, plumped up my bosom and for a second  I could  almost sell myself on the fact I looked like Michel Phiefer  in the Witches of Eastwick,” Eat your heart out boys.”

Snapping my fingers for my broom I was almost ready to ride. Of course everyone has to be a clown even my broom wore a floating sticker that said “Change is the answer!” was that a political statement or was it referring to my attire.. hmmmmmmmms. With a determined shake of my hips the gown finally settled into place. Now if I can only remember to pull it out of the crack of my butt once I slide off my broom I might just pass. No matter how you cut it, “just saying no to crack” is never pretty, even a hag of my venerable years has to maintain some dignity. With a wave of my hand I splash on a healthy dose of “Tabu”  and slash a liberal streak of bright red lipstick across my lips. I was ready to ride!

Its my Night – Happy Halloween!
